I would rather reach the ending of the game in real life than play through this again.
The House of the Living
A gothic bitsy adventure.
A sinister mansion calls to you, will you discover its secrets? Play in browser; 5-10min, use arrows keys to walk. Walk into characters and objects to interact with them.
The game touches of themes of religion, murder, death and suicide.

I can't hear any music or sound effect, I'm playing the browser version on Debian GNU/Linux
l audibly gasped seeing the horses. again when the dead guy had the tile color. clever looped ending, really excellent bitsty!!
I dont get it,the ending exist at all? Cuz i start again and again
woah, it's excellent ! <3
Thank you so much for this. The artwork has been inspirational for my own game (currently in alpha). I'm re-building all the art after seeing how effective perspective can be from this game.
Better than average or than I expected
But I don't seem to understand the objective of the game
I really like the music
Thanks for the game!
Very stylish art and music. It was interesting how depressingly little choice there is after you enter the mansion and how dark the story gets with each turn.
I'm a big fan of Gothic fiction, and this was great! The music was a nice choice for the atmosphere.
Like this gothic atmosphere. A game really doesn't need much gameplay to be interesting!
DANG THAT WAS GOOD
Nice ,i like the atmosphere. that retro color lacking graphics are matching really well with the rest.
Really cool! I enjoyed the art style and writing a lot.
Really cool - wish it was longer. Love the red-black style.
This game is so awesome that I can just say thanks!
this has a very unique feel, good job
Fun little game. I wish there were alternative endings and such.
the music for this is really really good. set the tone of the game perfectly.
( ° <°) __/\ _/\ I really liked your game, especially the graphics, because I MADE THEM. Please contact me at djoriraba at gmail dot com
Email sent :)
We have now resolved the issue over email. I have used some graphics from a tile sheet that I thought was Public Domain, but the art belonged to JimReed. I have now removed his art from the game.
Hello! I loved your game, it looked amazing and had such a well constructed spooky atmosphere. I feel like I've barely scratched the surface :D I made a let's play of your game here~
damn, amazing what people here are doing with a tool as simple and minimalistic as bitsy
I enjoyed my time with this!
The failure state from walking out the window made me stop playing though.
The architecture and colors are beautiful and spooky, and the little details around the mansion - the bones, the blood - add so much to the mood.
Oh my gosh, the art is GORGEOUS!!! I loved seeing the progress of this in the Bitscord. Such a chilling, dynamic story, well done!!
....I refused to kill the caretaker lmao
This game is wonderful! The intricate pixel art, poetry and music create an atmosphere that was truly haunting. (By the way, this color palette you chose is SO good!!! )
Hey, played some of this in the back half of this video on my channel! :)
Thanks, I have really enjoyed your playthrough of both!
...and if you are playing a lot of small/indie games on your channel, you definitely have me as a subscriber :)
Very cool :)
I am so fascinated by your Bitsy game. First, some of the seven deadly sins are portrayed as characters (at least Gluttony, but I would say Pride, Sloth, and Greed are also included), and secondly, it asks the question what one would do with a superhuman power (and indirectly also, whether the consequences would not always be the same anyway). Religion, philosophy and psychology in one. That's just outstanding, I mean it. I would like to congratulate you on this mastery and thank you for your creative work. The atmosphere has literally mesmerized me for a while. That was also the main reason for me to write a recommendation in the form of an article about your game and to upload a playthrough video. I hope that more people will find their way to you and your game. <3
I am really glad you enjoyed it, thank you for the video, the article and especially your amazing comment :)
I have played a few very impressive Itch games in the past weeks and this is one of them definitely. Not only are the graphics great (including the details, like how the parts you can interact with are in yellow), but the writing is nice too. At first, it seems like a bit creepy, but it takes a turn into creepier a little later.
I'd like to invite this game to our Game Development World Championship!
This is so awesome
HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT THE ART AND JUST GOD SO CREEP AND I AM IN AWE!! the music is really creepy too! like GEEZ!
Outstanding work! Genuinely creepy even before the
This was great! Great use of Bitsy's dialogue options and beautiful art.
Ahh, this was excellent! I really enjoyed the NPC dialogue - very interesting characters!
Still really tempted by that secret (I assume) on the bottom of the screen in one of the rooms. Handcuffs? Super intriguing.
Amazingly atmospheric! Very dark and eerie, with a bunch of different surprises spread through it. Well done!
