Of maps & men
A downloadable letter
You have been chosen to aid the Guild of Cartography and Allied Trades in mapping a remote portion of our ancient land. In this letter you will find the coded reports from expeditions tasked with surveying the land. It is up to you to decipher this information and chart it on the attached map. After your task is done, send it to the next master cartographer, so the mapping can continue.
Of maps & men is a map making game played using the postal service.
Players are cartographers analyzing expedition reports and charting those findings onto a communal map. During the game you will follow a set of procedures to discover, describe and draw a portion of a map. At the end of the game, you will have collaboratively produced an eclectic hexmap of a region, ready to be used in a RPG campaign.
The game builds on the ideas introduced by Adam Vass from World Champ Game Co. in ForeverDex and mixes them with some old school inspired hex mapping procedures. It was made for the Step up for the Postal Service Jam during the 2020 pandemic as a way to keep exploring fantastic worlds for when we can’t do it in person.

I'm intrigued by the game, but as someone who is not familiar with old school hex mapping procedures, I'd love to an example turn or two to help me wrap my head around the concept. Has anyone done a sample play blog or a video?
